Many people believe slavery had only existed in the 1800's, and early 1900's but there is more to slavery than you know. People do not know the least of the information there is on slavery. Recently in 2010 there was a case of slavery in Newark, New Jersey. This case had about 20 women locked up in a house with terrible living conditions, and although they were not physically locked in the house, the things their owners had them do was almost like prison. A women, alongside her husband and son had promised these 20 girls amazing wishes to be granted but instead turned them into a factory of braiding hair. Every penny made by these girls was given to their owner.
Even though they were captured from their native land to come here and work as their slaves they had to walk from this house they were living in, to their jobs which they would be in for over 14 hours some days and seven days a week. These girls seemed like just normal girls walking by which is why no one suspected a thing but unlike every one else these girls did not know where to turn. In an interview by CNN, two of the twenty girls said they thought many times of running away, but where would they run too was the question to pop up in their heads every time.
It was not just in 2010 but modern day slavery today ranges from around 21 million to 29 million. Slavery never ends, and will continue to live on if we don't do something about it. Modern day slavery is happening all around us and regardless of race no one should live in the conditions that they did, or be beaten, and treated the way these African American. These people were beaten to death, starved, and worked for hours and sometimes barely slept. Some were even hung just to scare the others into working harder. Each and every slave worked from the ages of thirteen to their death.
